Winton solar farm substation

Winton solar farm is located 25km south-west of Wangaratta, near the town of Winton, in the shire of Benalla in central north Victoria. The site covers approximately 250 hectares of agricultural land used for livestock grazing. Producing around 200,000 MW/h per year of clean energy, this is enough to power approximately 52,000 homes.
We were engaged by Gransolar to build a 66/33kV 115MVA solar farm substation. The scope of work included to engineer, procure and construct, and to test and commission the substation for the solar farm generation, in preparation for the solar farm performance testing, at a project value of $6.15m.
A key deliverable for the project was the design and construction of a new 66kV overhead powerline from the Winton solar farm to connect into the AusNet Winton substation. The Gransolar substation (66/33kV) is grid connected at 66kV via the AusNet network with the point of connection at Glenrowan Terminal Substation. Although in a different regional council, Winton solar farm is effectively next door to the Glenrowan West solar farm, separated only by an access lane.
